oday in the 21st century woman is considered equal as man which wasnt earlier. we have various examples in front of us today. eg. ashwariya, sania mirza, piti usha, kalpana chawla etc etc. we take any sector and woman are there. it is a pity woman is considered to be the weaker sex. She is physically strong, also proved more matured, emotionally stronger than man scientifically. Just because she is vulnerable sexually she is considered to be the weaker sex.
In olden times woman was considered as a liability of a family. because the father had to pay heavy dowries to the groom. also many social evil customs were in practice like the sati system, dowry system, ghoonghat system and many more. But there has been an evolution. the horizons of thinking of the people have become broad. it was a slow process but a firm one. Law and order have been designed such that woman gets an equal status with man. If we take a look at the status of woman outside india, we would never bring up this question. one eg i would like to give. In the USA if an article is published mentioning the right of a citizen and if by mistake they have written "he" instead of "he/she", the publisher can be sued. people do take initiative to sue such people.
The status of the woman whether married or unmarried has become strong just because of education. it is still improving. The next step after education should be physical protection. It should be made mandatory for every woman to learn self defense. After this no one would say that woman is a weaker sex. no one would coerce a woman to give in anything

Before making a comment on this law for women in live-ins, would somebody please explain to me the need for this whole concept of "Living-in"..??? Why is Maharashtra gov. making such a fuss about it? I totally agree with one of the commentators that this move can never be termed as progressive. In this age of financial independence, its ridiculous to consider women as old age "Abala Naari". When two so called mature and "worldly wise" people come together and decide to stay together, it is well presumed that they would have thought well about their decision. It is more like any other decision that a couple whether in a live-in or not would make. Why be so personal about this whole thing. It's the couple's decision. who has asked the gov to step in..?? And couples, if u really love each other so much, why not simply get married instead of trying out each other..? And what is there to try out..? If this provision is already there, you are bound to find faults with each other. This whole concept of living-in has a weak foundation, in fact it's baseless and a non-issue! It's totally an individual and personal choice and nobody should be allowed to intervene.
